I’m thrilled to announce that Hidden Secrets, the second book in the Lucy Harford Narrowboat Mysteries, is now available!

This story holds a special place in my heart because it’s inspired by my many visits to several beautiful market towns in the English countryside. They each have ancient Churches—one of them actually contains a Saxon chapel within its ancient walls. I’ve spent many peaceful hours in such places, soaking in the history and imagining the lives of those who where part of those communities over a thousand years ago.

Of course, I should clarify: the real churches have never been the scene of a murder! That dramatic embellishment is entirely my own invention. The actual towns are wonderfully tranquil, with lovely cafes and restaurants where the most serious crime is perhaps ordering a second cream tea when you really shouldn’t.
But as a mystery writer, I couldn’t help wondering: what if someone started asking questions about wartime secrets that powerful families wanted to keep buried? What if a Saxon artefact went missing during the chaos of World War II, and someone was willing to kill to prevent the truth from surfacing?
In Hidden Secrets, Lucy Harford finds herself navigating exactly those dangerous waters. When her innocent historical curiosity leads to murder, she must untangle seventy years of deception before the killer strikes again. And naturally, Sir Meows-a-Lot is there to “help” in his own inimitable feline fashion.

The narrowboat setting continues to be one of my favorite aspects of writing this series. There’s something wonderfully atmospheric about the English canal system—those quiet waterways that connect communities, carrying not just boats but generations of stories and secrets.
I hope you’ll join Lucy aboard The Curious Cat for this new adventure. Whether you’re already a fan from Scarecrow Secrets or this is your first voyage with Lucy, I think you’ll find that some mysteries are worth the wait—even if they’ve been hidden for decades.
Hidden Secrets is available now on Amazon. Happy sleuthing!
